A creative workshop exploring how serial dramas like Coronation Street and Emmerdale create stories to grip the nation. Workshop length – 1/2 day or 1 day.
“A STORY MASTERCLASS”
Interactive workshop on the storylining process with a follow-up exercise and feedback. (Mark’s workshops have discovered many new talents that have gone on to careers in television). Workshop length 1-2 days.

“SOAP IN A WEEK”
In 2016 Mark was the pioneer of a unique project in collaboration with the University of Central Lancashire. Under his mentorship, the students created, wrote, performed, produced and premiered a complete episode of their brand-new soap opera, all in one week! The project gave the students the opportunity to work with professionals from all areas of television production, and under their guidance create a showcase for their talents. Some of the students have had career opportunities in television as a result of the project, an achievement Mark is particularly proud of. Project length 1 week plus preliminary planning meetings.
“THE GENOCIDE OF RWANDA”
A talk and Q&A about Mark’s eighteen-month tenure as Soap Opera Consultant for the Well Women Media Project in Rwanda and the African Great Lakes Region. A fascinating insight into the cultural issues Mark faced and the dangers of working in a war-torn region, where he literally had a gun held to his head! 4 hours.
“STREET TO STREET”
An inspiring and motivational talk about how Mark, who once worked on “The Street”, became homeless then rebuilt his life. 2-3 hours.
“BLOG THE DOG”
An interactive talk about living with depression and how to blog about it, which is not as downbeat as it might sound! 2 hours.
“ANECDOTES FROM THE OFFGRID WRITER”
Anecdotal presentation and Q&A about Mark’s one-year project living alone on a campervan, travelling the UK and writing about the people he met. 3 hours.
